Douglas Millican appointed Scottish Water CEO
The Scottish Water Board has appointed Douglas Millican as its chief executive. The appointment has been approved by Scottish Ministers.
Douglas Millican was the finance and regulation director and had been interim chief executive. He said:
“I am honoured and delighted to take the helm at Scottish Water, leading a committed and passionate workforce delivering ever improving services to our customers. The service we provide is an essential one, and I know everyone in Scottish Water will continue to do the very best we can to deliver for our customers and communities across Scotland.”
He replaces Richard Ackroyd who died suddenly last Autumn. He came from the privatised industry in England and rarely seemed comfortable with the Scottish public service model. In particular the public accountability that comes with the job, including a focus on his personal pay and benefits. This is a factor that probably discouraged some applicants from south of the border. Millican will be more familiar with this and is regarded a safe pair of hands.
